Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, is globally recognized as one of the most iconic coffee-growing regions and is often considered part of the birthplace of Arabica coffee. Located in the Gedeo Zone in southern Ethiopia, the region sits at elevations ranging from 1,600 to 2,400 meters above sea level. Here, thousands of smallholder farmers cultivate indigenous heirloom varieties using traditional, eco-friendly methods passed down through generations. These coffees are typically hand-harvested, washed using fresh spring water, and dried on raised beds. Yirgacheffe’s coffee is protected as a trademarked origin and continues to play a central role in Ethiopia’s specialty coffee identity.
